The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Bi-awurbi, has described the hosting of the 2025 Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference Plenary Assembly in Damongo as a “divine blessing” for the young region, hailing the Catholic Church as a true partner in peacebuilding, moral transformation, and social progress.

Addressing the gathering that included the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, bishops, clergy and lay faithful at the opening of the 2025 Ghana Catholic Bishops annual plenary assembly in Damongo, Hon. Biawurbi praised the Church’s decision to hold its synodal meeting in the Savannah Region, calling it “a sign of commitment to reaching beyond comfort zones to touch lives and transform communities.”
“The Catholic Church is not only a spiritual force; it changes lives, transforms minds, and impacts society,” he stated. “Your presence here shows that Savannah can become a doorway to renewal and hope.”
Commending the conference theme, “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana,” the Minister noted its relevance to the region’s recent challenges with insecurity and ethnic tensions. He revealed that the peace process following the Bole Traditional Area conflict had made “the fastest and most successful reintegration in Ghana’s history,” with displaced residents now returning home.
“Life is returning to normalcy. We are working tirelessly to ensure that peace is restored completely not through weapons, but through dialogue, understanding, and faith,” he emphasized.
Hon. Biawurbi also called on the Church to deepen collaboration with government in promoting peace, justice, and social harmony. “The Catholic Church has the largest following in the Savannah Region. We count on you to help build bridges of peace and strengthen the values that unite us,” he said.
In closing, the Regional Minister invited the Church and private investors to see Savannah’s vast potentials and invest in its growth. “Savannah is a young region with great promise. Together, let us make it a beacon of peace and prosperity,” he declared.
