The event started with a Quran recitation, followed by prayers and supplications led by Imams. It brought together Muslim clerics, chiefs, Queen Mothers’ and political parties.
The event aimed to promote peace before, during, and after the elections in the Gonja Kingdom and across the country.
Chief Benkrowura Mahama Saaka, the spokesman for the Yagbonwura said the recitation is in line with the customs and traditions of Gonja.
Benkrowura Mahama Saaka noted that the recitation is to help protect the country before, during, and after the elections since Ghana is the only country we have.
“I don’t know any other country, Ghana is all we have and there’s a pending election where people are preparing to do a lot to win power.
So there’s the need to use the Quran to talk to God to protect the natives and the country against all evil intentions”.
Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu has therefore organized the Muslim leaders from Dokurupe, Laribanga, Damongo to recite the Quran for the nation. All the political parties have been invited to for the recitation.
The NPP Savannah regional chairman Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana Kalamonia said the tool for political campaigns is development and not destruction and therefore advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used to execute another person’s agenda because such acts will kill the future agenda for the youth
“My advice to the youth is that nobody should take himself to serve somebody’s agenda. Don’t use yourself to serve somebody’s agenda, your own agenda will come and you cannot set it. If you use yourself to set an agenda for someone today your own agenda will be a thing of the past because you will destroy your future for another person”.
A regional NDC vice chairman for the Savannah region Alhaji Ibrahim Baba Zakaria (Original Zak) appealed for calm as the nation heads to the December polls. He said the transition of power from one political party to the other is a statement that democracy is growing in the country.
“The NDC has always been law abiding and won’t do anything to disturb the peace we enjoy in Ghana. So everyone should remain calm and focused towards peace. As a party the NDC has been in the game since 1992 and knows what it takes to govern a peaceful country. The transition of power from one part to another is a clear manifestation that our democracy is maturing”.
Both political parties commended the Overlord of Gonja Kingdom for organizing the recitation and appealed to all to stay calm.
