The West Gonja Municipality witnessed a major development breakthrough on Thursday, December 4, 2025, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, led a team of technocrats and contractors to cut sod for two key community-impact projects a new CHPS compound for Sor No. 2 and a modern six-unit classroom block for the Agric Settlement.

Hon. Castro began his day at Sor No. 2, a farming community in the West Gonja Municipality, where he inaugurated work on a fully furnished CHPS compound and a three-unit staff apartment.
“This project will significantly improve healthcare access for the people of Sor No. 2 and the entire municipality,” the MCE stated. He expressed gratitude to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for channeling funds through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to make the initiative possible.

Contractors ( Ibn Zak company Ltd and Kamara International construction Ltd) have been given six calendar months to complete the facility. Though documentation reflects a two-week mobilization period, Hon. Castro urged them to begin earlier if ready. “Even if he’s coming to start tomorrow, he’s welcome,” he emphasized.

Later in the evening, the MCE and his team arrived at Agric Settlement to cut sod for a fully furnished six-unit classroom block with auxiliary facilities.
For 48 years, the only basic school in the community has operated from a converted bungalow split into six compartments, while KG pupils study under a mango tree. Hon. Castro described the new project as “long overdue and deeply necessary.”

“This is a vision we have carried for years. Today, as we break ground, we acknowledge the support of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, whose government is providing the funds,” he said.
He urged community members, led by the chief, to monitor and safeguard the project to ensure quality delivery.
In addition to the classroom block, the MCE announced plans to secure and register an 11-acre parcel of land to prevent future encroachment. He also revealed that a befitting football field will be constructed to promote sports and recreation.
“It is my hope that the school will grow from KG and Primary to a full Junior High School to complete the basic education structure,” he added.
Both sod-cutting ceremonies were attended by chiefs, Assembly Members, elders, community members, and stakeholders who expressed joy at the long-awaited developments.
Hon. Castro concluded by thanking all traditional authorities and residents for their support:
“Together, we are shaping the future of West Gonja. These projects will raise tomorrow’s leaders for this municipality and Ghana as a whole”.
