Gonja’s Diaspora, a global network of Gonja natives has donated GH₵7,500 as seed capital to officially launch the Busunu Health Purse, a community health fund aimed at improving healthcare delivery in Busunu and its surrounding areas.
The donation, made at a short ceremony at the Busunuwura’s Palace on Thursday, 6th November 2025, marked the beginning of a sustainable, homegrown initiative to provide financial support for residents in need of medical care.

The Busunu Health Purse, which will be managed by a six-member committee appointed by the Busunuwura, is expected to operate under strict guidelines to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in disbursing funds. To guarantee its longevity, community members have been encouraged to make regular contributions from personal earnings and market tolls.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Habibu Muftawu, Ghana Coordinator of Gonja’s Diaspora, praised the Busunu community for their commitment to self-reliance and grassroots development.
“This initiative is designed to support communities that take their own development into their hands without depending solely on government assistance—and Busunu stands tall in this regard,” he remarked.

Mr. Muftawu also expressed optimism that the Busunu Health Purse would serve as a model for similar community-driven interventions across Gonjaland. He urged the committee to uphold transparency and diligence to ensure the fund’s long-term success.
On behalf of the Busunu Traditional Area, Kpantariwura Bashiru extended heartfelt appreciation to Gonja’s Diaspora for their generous gesture. He assured that the contribution would be managed prudently to enhance healthcare access and improve the well-being of residents.

Gonja’s Diaspora further called on all Gonjalanders living abroad to join the network in supporting developmental initiatives across their home communities. Interested members can contact the group’s secretary in Australia on +61431000236 for membership and collaboration opportunities.

The launch of the Busunu Health Purse underscores the power of collective action bridging the gap between the Diaspora and local communities to foster sustainable development and better health outcomes in Gonjaland.
