Claim:
A report by Radio Tamale 97.1 claimed that 10 people were killed in Gbinyiri in the Savannah Region, with a flyer stating: “Savannah Region: Death Toll Rises to 10 as Police Search for More Bodies.”
Verdict:
Misleading

Explanation:
A verification conducted by PAD FM (www.padfm.com.gh with the Savannah Regional Police Command contradicts the claim made by Radio Tamale.
According to the police, only five people have been confirmed dead, not ten as widely circulated.
The police further disclosed that five additional individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Gbinyiri township, where the victims were shot at close range in broad daylight by unknown assailants.
While confirming the incident, the police emphasized that there is no evidence to support claims of a higher death toll, nor are there confirmed reports of additional bodies being discovered.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

This incident comes amid ongoing efforts to resolve tensions in the area. A Presidential Mediation Committee, led by Emmanuel Bombande, recently submitted its recommendations to President John Dramani Mahama aimed at achieving lasting peace.
Additionally, traditional leaders have undertaken spiritual purification rites as part of local conflict resolution measures.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Hospital.
Conclusion:
The claim that 10 people were killed in Gbinyiri is inaccurate. Verified information from the police confirms five fatalities, making the Radio Tamale report misleading.
