Daboya, Savannah Region — November 1, 2025: The Hon. District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Gonja, Abdulai Nashiru, has pledged his office’s commitment to work closely with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Alhaji Mahama Shaibu Obei, to address the major educational challenges facing the district.
Speaking at the Stakeholders’ Education Dialogue held at the Assemblies of God Church in Daboya, the DCE said their administration inherited numerous setbacks in the education sector, including inadequate school infrastructure, lack of teachers’ accommodation, insufficient furniture and learning materials, and limited community involvement in educational activities.
The event, which was organized under the theme “Igniting Excellence: A Collective Action for Quality Education in North Gonja District through Renewed Parenting, Teaching, and Learning,” brought together key education stakeholders to brainstorm practical solutions to the declining performance in the district’s schools.
“The issue of infrastructure is a major factor affecting education in the district,” Mr. Nashiru stated. “We are determined to work with all stakeholders to build more classrooms, provide teachers’ accommodation and school furniture, and strengthen Ghana Education Service’s supervision and monitoring systems.”
He further disclosed that the District Assembly, in partnership with community leaders, is reviving Community Self-Help Programmes to support the construction of teachers’ quarters and additional classroom blocks. Mr. Nashiru appealed to the “sons and daughters of the Savannah Region” to contribute their quota towards improving education in the district, adding that he is confident that “within the next five years, the standard of education in North Gonja will improve significantly.”

The DCE also highlighted the challenge of what he termed “teacher apartheid,” where some teachers refuse postings to certain communities. He assured that plans are underway to ensure teachers are posted to areas where they are willing to stay and teach. He noted that the John Mahama administration’s policy of providing incentives to teachers who accept postings to rural areas will greatly benefit North Gonja.
In a show of support, the Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Imoro (popularly known as Man Blessing), donated two brand new motorbikes to aid monitoring and supervision in the district. He pledged his personal commitment to support the MP and the District Assembly’s efforts to uplift education standards, commending the MP for taking bold and practical steps to address the crisis.
“Education is the foundation for development, and I am proud of the MP’s initiative. I will personally support this cause to ensure that our children have access to quality learning,” Chairman Man Blessing stated.
