On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, the Paramount chief of the Buipe traditional area, embarked on a visit to assess the flood-stricken areas within Buipe.
These areas encompassed the residential sections near the bridge, the Zongo neighborhood, the local market and the Buipe cattle market, all of which are submerged by rising waters, severely impeding local commerce.
In an interview with our source, Buipewura Jinapor II conveyed the dire nature of the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention and the support of charitable organizations to aid the affected residents.
He also offered assurance that plans were already in motion to permanently relocate those affected to a safer area, mitigating the recurrence of such hardships in the future.
The flooding has resulted in the displacement of some 3,149 individuals, comprising 571 adult males, 603 adult females, 950 male children, and 1,025 female children in Buipe, the capital of the Central Gonja District within the Savannah Region.
This surge in water levels has been caused by continuous rainfall in the area.
