With the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gearing up for its Savannah Regional Executive Elections, a new poll by the Analytical Political Lens (APL) shows Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Prof Kalamonia, as the clear frontrunner in the race for Regional Chairman.

The poll, conducted from August 19 to 21, 2025, sampled 125 out of 171 eligible delegates across the Savannah Region. With a margin of error of ±5% at a 95% confidence level, the findings offer a compelling look into delegate preferences just weeks ahead of the elections.
Prof Kalamonia in Commanding Lead
According to the poll, Prof Kalamonia holds a commanding 63.2% of delegate support, placing him well ahead of his closest competitors:
• Adam Eliasu (Red Bawa): 14.4%
• Nana Kwame Aboagye: 13.6%
• Undecided: 8%
• Abass Azumah: 0.8%
This overwhelming lead places Kalamonia in a strong position as the candidate to beat, with over six in ten delegates expressing their intent to vote for him.
Why Delegates Support Him
The APL poll reveals that “the ability of the candidate to do the work” is the most influential factor in delegates’ decision-making, with a staggering 88% citing it as their top consideration. Prof Kalamonia’s long-standing involvement in the party, coupled with his reputation for delivering results, appears to be resonating with delegates across the region.
Demographics Backing the Race
• 83.2% of respondents were male
• 36% were between the ages of 18 and 35
• 82.4% identified as Muslim
• 70.4% were of Gonja ethnic background
• 71.2% had tertiary education
These demographics mirror the broader composition of the NPP’s delegate base in the region, lending credibility to the poll’s projections.
Party Sentiment and Momentum
The poll also found that:
• 57.6% of delegates believe the party is heading in the right direction
• 55.2% say the current regional executives are doing well
• However, 41.6% say the lives of party executives have not improved, signaling that delegates may be looking for transformational leadership
Looking Ahead
With just a few months to the elections, Prof Kalamonia’s wide lead gives him a significant edge. However, with 8% of delegates still undecided and others trailing with double-digit support, the race could still witness shifts—especially if alliances change or unexpected campaign dynamics emerge.
The next APL poll is scheduled for October 2025, and it is expected to capture how the momentum continues to build—or change—as the campaign intensifies.
