The Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has donated 110 vials of anti-snake venom to health facilities in the Damongo constituency.
The donation aims to address the critical need for accessible snakebite treatment, particularly during the rainy season when incidents tend to increase.
The brief handing-over ceremony took place on Monday, 13th May, 2024. Representing the Damongo MP, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, the coordinator at the office of the Damongo lawmaker, highlighted the motivation behind the gesture.
He explained that the donation responds to numerous reports from constituents struggling to access or afford snake venom treatment. This issue is exacerbated by the scarcity of the antivenom in local health facilities.
“The donation became necessary as many affected individuals are usually unable to afford the antivenom due to its unavailability,” Mr. Fuseini stated.
He further emphasized that the antivenoms will be provided free of charge across all health facilities in the Damongo Constituency and encouraged the public to inform the nearest health facility should the need for antivenom arise.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ghana Health Service and the municipal health directorate, Municipal Medical Supply Officer Mr. Madi Edmond, accompanied by Physician Assistant Nuhu Kantamah Abdul Ganiu, expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention. “The antivenoms have arrived at the right time, as this is the season when we receive such cases,” Mr. Edmond noted.
He added that while they hope for fewer snakebite incidents, the availability of the antivenom through the MP’s initiative will provide a crucial remedy when needed.
This donation underscores Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and addressing urgent health needs in his constituency.
