Dear Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and team,

It is with deep concern and utmost disappointment I am reaching you live from my humble abode in Larabanga in the Savannah region. Sir, I have noticed how fervent you are trying to tribalize the presidential contest of our party slated to take place on 31st January, 2026. I have been following you and your team keenly and and I have realized how hard you and your team are fighting it to the fingers to make the contest a North versus South affair. Probably, you thought since our Ghanaian communities are that of organic solidarity and that Akans or Southerners are the majority in Ghana, it is your political strategy to woo the delegates especially those of the Akan extraction or Southerners to throw away competence, dedication to duty, and hardwork and settle on you.

Sir, in all of this, that which keeps lingering in my head is how you will campaign in the five Northern regions in the event that you win the election and becomes the flagbearer of the party for the 2028 elections. Have you thought about that? Or should we believe in the widespread notion out there that you intentionally came into the contest not to win but to mar matters because of some few issues that didn’t go in your favor? At a point, I was like, is this you ? But I had to come to terms that it was a grand scheme by you and your team since almost everybody or the lead campaigners in your team are towing that tangent. At this point, suffice me to bring to the fore, comments from you and your team on this subject matter.

1) In 2023, precisely in a meeting you had with delegates of our party in the Western region you told them that the president ( Nana Addo) has appointed the defence minister, Interior minister, Sports and youth minister, Lands and natural resources minister and tourism minister from the North and you went ahead to quiz that were Northerners the only people who voted for the party?

2) There is a video in circulation wherein you were very alarmed that should the NPP elect Dr. Bawumia as its flagbearer in 2023, it was going to be an all Northern affair because the NDC had elected John Mahama and APC is also presenting Dr. Hassan Ayariga.

3) In March 2025, you openly said that Bawumia lost the election because he is a Muslim and insinuated that there was no way a Muslim can become the president of Ghana. You said this when you met a group of legal professionals in Kumasi to solicit for their support for the January 31st

4) In June 2025, one of your lead campaigners, Dr. Stephen Amoah, the MP for Nhyiaso told delegates in Ashanti region before cameras that Ghana is not ready for a Muslim president because of the dominance of Christians. In the video that has gone viral, you were comfortably seated in that meeting.

5) In August 2025, Asomah Cheremeh, one of your frontliners said in a radio station somewhere in Kumasi that Bawumia should be rejected because his wife is a Fulani and that all Fulanis in Ghana are not Ghanaians.

5) In November, 2025, your in- law, the MP for Asante Akim South, Hon. Kwaku Asante- Boateng insinuated that since Bawumia is a Northerner and a Muslim, he is a slave in the party and do not deserve to lead it as its flagbearer.
6) In November 2025, that is somewhere in the Eastern region, you called on all Akans in Ghana to come together and chase away Bawumia and work for the victory of their own Akan.
7) In December 2025, Hon. Alfred Obeng, former MP for Bibiani who was also Managing Director of BOST and a key figure of your team said in a meeting with delegates of the Bibiani constituency that Northerners who occupied the positions of Interior, Lands and Natural Resources, Defence didn’t deserve them because of their geographical location.

8) In December 2025, your would- be running mate in the event that you win the primaries, Naa Torshie in the same meeting with delegates of the Bibiani constituency told the public that Bawumia should not be made to lead the NPP as its flagbearer because he is a Muslim and a Mamprusi.

Clearly, all these points to the fact that you endorsed that message and that it is the official message of your team. If indeed, you and your team can say all these before cameras, I am imagining the derogatory ones you will say to delegates in private. I sometimes sit to ponder whether you guys know the harm you are causing the party that increased your wealth. It is an obvious fact that the greatest weakness of our party is “the tribalization of politics in Ghana”. Since our early days of UGCC to date, the political adversaries of our tradition have labelled us as a party that is disrespectful to minority tribes and groups in Ghana. They have always used some unfortunate and comments our leaders have said in the past and some actions of us such as the Alliance Compliance Law by Dr. K. A Busia to incite some tribes against our party.

As a senior fellow of our noble tradition, you know that a lot has been done to dispel the notion of the NPP not being a party with a national character but very sectoral. In 1992, the party had nominated Chief Yakubu Tali to partner Professor Adu Boahen. In 2000, the party nominated Alhaji Aliu Mahama as a running to former president Kuffuor and in 2008 to 2020, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia was nominated as a running mate to former president Nana Addo. Additionally, the creation of the Nasara Wing coupled with the various developmental strides in Zongo communities like the award of a diplomatic passport to the National Chief Imam, the inclusion of Arabic instructors into National Service Scheme, the creation of the Zongo Development Fund and the Zongo and inner cities ministry were all geared towards erasing the erroneous notion held by many that the NPP as in its intention and actions hate and disrespect Northerners and Muslims. I am even told that the party had decided to make some of its party positions at the Constituency, regional and national levels non- electoral in order to ensure the inclusion of other tribes to make the party look appealing to all.

So why this attempt to destroy it and fan into flames that notion? Have you ever thought of the feelings of all Northerners and Muslims who defied all odds to belong to the New Patriotic Party? If you care to know, many Northerners and Muslims had gone through a lot in throwing their support for the NPP. Factually, many of them have been treated as outcasts, ridiculed and called ” traitors of Northern Ghana or Islam” because they support the New Patriotic Party.

Former president Kuffuor and former Nana Addo in all their actions and utterances have demonstrated their love for Northerners and Muslims. In 1996, even though, former president Kuffuor contested in the primaries against Alhaji Malik Alhassan, former president Kuffuor never uttered a word that was derogatory to Northerners and Muslims. In the same vein, former president Akuffo Addo contested in the 2007 presidential primaries with Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Nana Addo is never on record to have looked down upon Northerners and Muslims. Why only you?

I hope you know very well that even though Akans constitute the majority in Ghana but they alone cannot make you the president of Ghana. You are on record to have declared a war between Akans on one side against Ewes and Gas. You still have that scar on you and you have added Northerners and Muslims to the bag of hatred and disrespect?

Please, let us the Northerners and Muslims feel worthy in the party. The disrespect of you and your team towards us is annoying. If you think you have had enough money because of the numerous contracts you won under president Kuffuor and Nana Addo, do not destroy the party that made you who you are. Others also want to win contracts and become richer like you claim you are.
