Hon. Joe Ghartey, one of NPP’s presidential aspirants on Sunday, 20th August, 2023 engaged with NPP delegates in Damongo, the savannah regional capital.
In an exclusive interview with our reporter, Kumatey Gorden after meeting with the delegates, Mr. Joe Ghartey emphasized his deep connection with the party’s principles, qualifying him to steer the NPP through the 2024 General elections.
According to Joe Ghartey, the NPP requires a leader who not only comprehends the party’s core values but also embodies its DNA.
He highlighted his extensive involvement since 1992, citing his contributions to the party’s activities, including his participation in the group responsible for drafting the 1992 election’s contested results, alongside current President Nana Akuffo Addo, Alex Kwainoo, Philip Addison, his wife Efua Ghartey and himself.
He further mentioned his role in chairing pivotal sessions, such as the 2009 constitutional adjustments at La in the Greater Accra Region, and leading various party committees.
Joe Ghartey expressed the belief that his unique experience and dedication align with the NPP’s requirements for effective leadership.
Joe Ghartey echoed the NPP’s core values and ideals, emphasizing the party’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment to encourage entrepreneurship.
He pledged an equitable approach, referencing his tenure as second deputy speaker of Ghana’s Parliament as evidence of his impartiality.
With a history that includes parliamentary membership, serving as second deputy speaker, minister of justice and Attorney General under President Kuffour and minister of railways during President Akufo-Addo’s initial term makes Joe Ghartey well-versed in NPP’s journey.
He acknowledged the party’s achievements and challenges, underlining his role in propelling the nation forward and therefore appealing to the delegates to sought their massive support to lead the nation’s transformation to the next level.
