The Martyrs of Uganda Parish Youth Council (PYC) on Sunday, 21st May, 2023, held a thanksgiving mass at the parish Church at Bole in the Savannah region.
It will be recalled that for the past 6 years, the Martyrs of Uganda parish had been without a Youth Council. This was due to certain pastoral challenges that bedeviled the parish, which eventually affected the spiritual and social development of the youth of the parish.
However, a new council was later inaugurated on April 30, 2023. It is against this backdrop that the mass was held to give thanks to God for the gift of the new council.
The Youth of the Parish were actively involved in every aspect of the liturgy during the mass. Some were Lectors, who read beautifully while others served as choristers. As choristers, they sang traditional Catholic hymns in English and Latin. They also sang beautifully in the Dagaare and Gonja dialects, sending the congregation into a higher spiritual ecstasy. Some also served as ushers and Alter servers.
In his homily, the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Lazarus Annyereh called on Catholics, especially the Catholic youth to be prayerful. He emphasized that prayer is the breath of every soul and the lifeline of every believing community.
During the prayer of the faithful, the youth prayed for Mother Church and her leadership and the Martyrs of Uganda Parish. They also prayed for the youth of the world today.
The Youth Council seized the opportunity to reiterate its promise to respond to the social and spiritual needs of the youth of the parish community, by providing programs and activities that will build for them a strong foundation of faith.
The Youth Council in consultation with the Liturgical Committee have since set aside third Sunday of every month as Youth Thanksgiving Mass.
