An irrigation farmer at Sor No. 1 in the West Gonja municipality of the savannah region, Dizooya Solomon has appealed for Support to enable him expand his vegetable irrigation farm to increase his productions.

Interacting with our news reporter who visited the farm, the young and energic vegetable farmer described irrigation farming as a highly lucrative venture but lamented that many of the young people are unwilling to take it up because of the absence of irrigation facilities in the area.

Solomon Dizooya

He explained that he moved to the southern part of the country for greener pasture where he understudied and trained in irrigation farming and later returned home after he heard that a dam was dug in his community under the 1village 1 Dam initiative of Government to support irrigation farming.

According to him, he has since his return farmed alot of vegetables in the last three years and has been a major supplier to the Damongo market women on daily basis.

Solomon is currently being faced with the lack of water pumping machine equipments, watering cans, pipes and fence nets to enable him expand his vegetable garden and also adopt to modern drip systems which can enable him save water to drip slowly to the roots of plants.

He noted that there is a lot of arable land in the Sor area but unable to expand his garden due to lack of support.

He has so far engaged three young men at his farm to support him and very optimistic to engage more youth if he gets support and therefore called on the Member of Parliament for Damongo, the West Gonja Municipal Chief executive, philanthropist and others to come to his aid.

The communications Director for the NPP in the Damongo constituency, Mr. Iddrisu Laminu who also visited the farm of the young man to see things for himself applauded the young man for what he has been able to do in the area using a dam under the 1 village 1 Dam initiative of the NPP government and urged others in the area to emulate him in order to better their lives.

Mr. Iddrisu Laminu

He admitted to seeing Solomon with boxes of tomatoes heading to his retailers and said Solomon’s ideas to venture into irrigation farming will benefit the entire constituency alot if many of the youth are supported to venture into the area of Agriculture and therefore appealing to individuals and agencies who have Agriculture at their hearts to come to the aid of the young irrigation farmer.

Assemblyman for Sor, Mr. Fuseini Seidu

The Assemblyman for the Sor electoral area, Hon. Seidu Fuseini who had also visited the farm at the time of this report recounted how the young irrigation farmer approached him for permission to make use of the 1V1D facility in his area for an irrigation farm and with no doubt, he permitted him and today he is very happy with how far the young man has worked in his garden and urged the youth in the area to learn from Solomon for their own good and that of the society.

Solomon’s vegetable irrigation farm is currently flourishing with Garden eggs, Okro, tomatoes, Cabbage, Carot, cucumber and maize.
