Beekeeping and cashew farmers under the operational framework of Bunyanso Farms Integrated Beekeeping and Cashew Plantation Enterprise will be launching a training sessions on basic techniques of beekeeping management and honey harvesting to support the integration of honeybees into cashew orchards in the Savannah Region.
As insect pollination alongside cashew farming is critical for the achievement of profitable yields, the introduction of honeybees into cashew orchards can play a vital role in enhance yields as well as offer alternative income generation opportunities for smallholder’s farmers, beekeeper apprentices and beekeepers in Savannah region.
On the light of the boosting cashew sector in Savannah region in collaboration with the respective partners, we will be conducting Training of Trainers session for selected cashew farmers, beekeeper apprentices and beekeepers coming from Bunyanso Farms Integrated Beekeeping and Cashew Plantation Enterprise target districts and Municipalities in Savannah region.
The training aimed to enhance farmer’s, Beekeepers’ and beekeeper apprentices’ knowledge and practical skills on beekeeping management and honey harvesting. The objective is to capacitate the attendees to train other farmers, Beekeepers and beekeeper apprentices. The training also will support technical skills of local handcrafts operation for producing suitable equipment and tools to be distributed to Cashew farmers, beekeeper apprentices and beekeepers.
We believe that the training will be a big opportunity for Savannah region farmers, beekeepers and beekeeper apprentices to be knowledgeable in the integration of beekeeping within cashew farming. We will further acknowledge the conducive climate condition together with the proper land system available in Savannah region and that there exist lots of potentials from which local farmers, beekeeper apprentices and beekeepers could benefit. “This practice would enable bees to pollinate cashew flowers which would lead to a yield increase of about 200% of cashew nut,”. We will continue that despite the knowledge of some local farmers, beekeeper apprentices and beekeepers in honey production especially in the West Gonja Municipal, emphasize that most local farmers, beekeeper apprentices and beekeepers are not adequately informed with information regarding this new concept to be integrated in cashew farming. We will advise the trainees to adopt the right skills and pass them on to other farmers, beekeepers and beekeeper apprentices.
