Buipewura Jinapor (II) Abdulai, the leader of the Buipe traditional area has visited areas affected by the black Volta flood following the spillage of Badgri dam
Buipewura Jinapor II appealed to government, international agencies, corporate Ghana and other stakeholders to assist people who are displaced by recent flooding in the Buipe township to help give them some meaningful life following the spillage of the Bagri dam.
Hundreds of houses have been submerged with thousands of residents rendered homeless at the Zongo, cattle market and Bridge residential areas of Buipe.
Buipewura Jinapor (II) visited the flooded areas on Wednesday, October 19, 2023.
Speaking to the media, Buipewura Jinapor (II) called on philanthropists and viable stakeholders to support his subjects who are highly hit by the water, damaging houses and properties and who are still in the process of being relocated.
Many of the affected persons have been forced to leave their homes to seek refuge with others whilst efforts to get them better places of comfort are in progress. The flooding has also led to the destruction of property and other valuables at homes, businesses and workplaces.
Areas such as Buipe Zongo, Bride, Buipe cattle market have been hit highly.
Some affected residents who spoke to Damongo based PAD FM (95.1mhz), appealed to the Central Gonja district assembly, central government and corporate Ghana to come to their aid and get sleeping places for them and also feed their families because the floods have destroyed almost everything at their possession.
They also appealed to the government to address sanitation related challenges the areas are faced with to, avert future ocurrences in the Buipe township.
Hon Central Gonja District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Salia Kamara, who presented some life jackets to residents who use canoes to cross to other areas of the town, said the flooding is not an annual thing but occurs every decade (10 years). He said although it’s capital intensive, plans are underway to construct a befitting drainage system to help avert future occurrences.
The Hon Assembly Member for Buipe electoral area Abdulai Hakim said his office has embarked on a monthly clean up campaign to help address sanitation challenges in the town since he assumed offie and expressed gratitude to the Buipewura Jinapor II and Buipe traditional area for supporting the policy.
He also called on Zoom Lion company ltd to up their game in clearing their dust bins as and when they get full.
NADMO officials, district staff, chiefs, and the public all were present and supported the called by the Buipewura Jinapor II to government and other stakeholders to come over and support.
