The Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) has been honoured with the prestigious “Tourism Group/Association of the Year – 2026” award for its outstanding contribution to tourism promotion, cultural preservation, peacebuilding and sustainable development in Gonjaland and the Savannah Region.

The award was presented to the Association on September 11, 2026, at the Wuripe and Sons Royal Lodge in Bole, in recognition of GLYA’s growing role in promoting the region’s tourism potential and supporting initiatives aimed at advancing local economic development.

A GLYA delegation led by its National President, Mr. Al-Hassan Baba Darison, received the honour on behalf of the Association. The delegation was joined by members from the Bole, Sawla and Mankuma branches, who gathered to celebrate the achievement.

According to the citation accompanying the award, GLYA was recognised for its instrumental role in promoting peace and stability, enhancing the tourism potential of the Savannah Region, and supporting initiatives that contribute to local economic development.

The Association described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of the people and institutions working to advance the development of Gonjaland.

GLYA dedicated the honour to the hardworking youth of Gonjaland, traditional leaders, government institutions, development partners, tourism stakeholders, civil society organisations, the media and individuals who have supported its programmes and initiatives over the years.

The Association said the recognition would further strengthen its resolve to promote the rich cultural heritage and tourism assets of Gonjaland, including its festivals, historical sites, landscapes, arts and other attractions.

GLYA believes that a vibrant tourism sector can provide significant opportunities for job creation, support for local businesses, investment attraction and socio-economic development across communities in the region.

The Association also expressed its gratitude to Gonjalanders for their continued confidence, encouragement and support, while commending the organisers and presenters of the award for recognising its contribution.

GLYA reaffirmed its commitment to projecting the beauty, cultural heritage and development potential of Gonjaland to audiences across Ghana and beyond.
