Gambaga, North East Region – Hundreds of young people in the North East Region joined a nationwide clean-up exercise organised by the National Youth Authority (NYA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to commemorate this year’s National Youth Month.
The exercise, which took place simultaneously across all 16 regions of Ghana under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Lawyer Osman Ayariga, mobilised youth groups, government agencies, students, market women, and community members to clean public spaces and promote environmental sanitation.
In the North East Region, participants included personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, recruits of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), students, traders, and residents of Gambaga.
The initiative forms part of the Authority’s efforts to encourage young people to take ownership of environmental sanitation while promoting civic responsibility and community development.
Addressing participants, the North East Regional Director of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Robert Kampi Laari, urged young people to cultivate the habit of maintaining clean surroundings and prioritising personal hygiene.
He encouraged the youth to become ambassadors of positive change by demonstrating patriotism, leadership, and active participation in community development.
Mr. Laari stressed that national development depends on responsible and productive citizens, calling on young people to contribute meaningfully to building cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.
He noted that the clean-up exercise is not only a National Youth Month activity but also forms part of the NYA’s broader commitment to sustaining youth participation in environmental sanitation and civic engagement across the country.
The National Youth Authority expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, security agencies, youth groups, and community members who participated in the exercise, urging Ghanaians to sustain the spirit of volunteerism and collective action in keeping their communities clean.
