The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, has directed the Brefo and Lobi settlers in the Gonja area to perform customary pacification rites to cleanse and restore peace to the lands affected by the recent Gbinyiri conflict, which claimed several lives.
In his directive, the Yagbonwura charged the Brefo-Lobi community to present the following items to pacify the disturbed lands:
7 white cocks, 7 rams, 7 goats, 100 cows, 7 bowls of white kola nuts,1 carton of schnapps and One hundred thousand Ghana cedis.
The announcement came when a delegation including the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Bi-awurbi, Bole-Bamboi MP and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yussif Sulemana and NDC Savannah Regional Chairman, Alhaji Seidu Imoro led a delegation of Brefo and Lobi leaders to the Jakpa Palace on Friday, 7th November 2025. The group visited the King to seek forgiveness and reconciliation following violent disturbances in the Gbinyiri area of the Bole Traditional Area.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Hon. Yussif Sulemana revealed that President John Dramani Mahama had tasked him and other regional leaders to facilitate peace efforts in the area.
“The Brefo-Lobi group came to the Yagbonwura to apologize and show remorse for what happened between them and the Gonjas. His Majesty has forgiven them but emphasized the need for traditional pacification as a symbol of reconciliation and healing,” he explained.
He expressed gratitude to the Yagbonwura for his wisdom in handling the matter and commended both sides for their willingness to embrace peace.
“Without peace, there can be no development,” the MP noted, adding that the government is committed to ensuring lasting stability in the region, citing ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Wenchi–Bamboi–Bole–Sawla–Tuna–Wa Road.
On his part, Apostle Dr. Moses Sansa Kongon, a member of the Brefo-Lobi delegation, described the meeting as a major milestone toward lasting peace.
“The King received us warmly and accepted our plea for forgiveness. We are grateful for his magnanimity and are committed to ensuring that such conflicts never occur again,” he said.
Apostle Kongon appealed to all displaced persons from the conflict areas to return home, assuring them that peace has been restored under the guidance of the Yagbonwura.
The Yagbonwura’s directive marks a significant step toward healing and reconciliation in the Bole Traditional Area. The pacification ceremony is expected to serve as both a spiritual cleansing and a symbol of renewed unity between the Gonjas and the Brefo-Lobi settlers.
