The Assemblyman for the Hangaline Electoral Area, Hon. Gorden Kumatey, popularly known as DJ Flemzy, has made a heartfelt appeal to the general public, urging support for the welfare of a newborn baby who was abandoned at a refuse dump site in Hangaline.

The male infant was discovered early Tuesday morning, wrapped in cloth and left at a refuse dump near the 7.7 Junction in Hangaline, a suburb of Damongo. The identity of the child’s parents remains unknown, and authorities have so far been unable to trace any relatives.

Hon. Gorden Kumatey made the appeal during a visit to St. Anne’s Hospital in Damongo on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, where the baby is currently being cared for by the hospital’s neonatal unit. He described the child’s condition as stable, but noted that the baby lacks essential supplies required for proper care.

“The baby is in a stable condition, but there is an urgent need for items such as baby clothing, caps, socks, diapers, baby wipes, Nan 1 infant formula, and clean bottled water like Voltic,” Hon. Kumatey stated.

He called on benevolent individuals, NGOs, and community members to donate and assist in supporting the infant, who is now dependent on public generosity.

The Assemblyman also revealed that the hospital’s Social Welfare Unit is working closely with the Department of Social Welfare in Damongo to arrange for the baby’s transfer to an orphanage, where he can receive long-term care.

The case has sparked concern and sympathy across the Damongo community, as many express hope for a better future for the child.

Anyone willing to offer support is encouraged to contact the St. Anne’s Hospital, the department of social welfare or the Hangaline Assemblyman’s office.
