15th May 2025 – Damongo

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Savannah region of Ghana has been engaging the public and security services as the country celebrates Annual Constitution week.

The NCCE regional secretariat took the 2025 Annual Constitution Week Celebration to the Armed Forces of Ghana, 155 Armoured Regiment Base, Damongo, on Thursday 15th May, 2025.

The Annual Constitution Week Celebration is one of the flagship programs of the Commission. The celebration was instituted in 2001 to commemorate the country’s return to constitutionally democratic rule. Ghanaians voted in a referendum that adopted the draft of the Fourth Republic constitution and it remains so till now.

Mr. Issaka Zitor, the NCCE Savannah regional director, commended personnel of the security services and Ghanaians for their active participation in the 7th December 2024 general elections and also, lauded the political parties for smooth transition.

Issaka Zitor, speaking on the theme, sensitized participants on the Commission’s operational theme for 2025, “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility”, and noted that Ghana is blessed with abundant natural resources, rich culture and vibrant population. The future of Ghana as envisaged, will be shaped daily by our collective actions. Most importantly, how Ghanaians treat one another, manage God-given resources, educate the next generation, and how leaders are held accountable by citizens.
He emphasized on the need for citizens to uphold national values such as honesty, patriotism, respect, discipline, integrity, and hard work, to support the growth and development of the country.
“Building a strong, vibrant and peaceful country requires the contribution of all citizens”, he stressed.

Issaka Zitor noted some challenges affecting the Savannah region and Ghana. He highlighted the high rate of substance abuse, chieftaincy succession conflicts, herder-farmer conflicts, land boundary conflicts, environmental destruction, amongst others.

Issaka Zitor recommended policies and actions that will help fight and resolve these menaces to promote development in Ghana.
Again, he acknowledged the contribution of various security services personnel in Ghana and commended them to continue to protect Ghana’s Constitutional democratic rule, lives and properties.

During the engagement a quiz competition was conducted for the 155 Armoured Regiment on the provisions of the 1992 Constitution and some Acts of the security services as a means to encourage service men and women to study the 1992 Constitution, and selected Acts of the security services to enhance daily activities.

Officers who answered the question correctly were given copies of the 1992 constitution.

The 155 armoured regiment commended NCCE for the education and expressed commitment to protect the 1992 Constitution, lives, and properties in Ghana.
