The Savannah Region celebrated a landmark achievement on Monday 28th October, 2024 in Daboya, North Gonja District Capital, as the government of President Nana Akufo-Addo officially absorbed the Savannah College of Education in Daboya. The historic occasion saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that marked the college’s transition to public status, fulfilling a key promise made by Vice President and NPP Presidential Candidate for 2024 Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
NPP Savannah Regional Chairman, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana Kalamonia, attended the event and praised the government’s commitment to education and regional advancement. “This is a proud moment for Daboya and the entire Savannah Region. It highlights the government’s dedication to the development of Gonjaland and to providing access to quality education,” he remarked, underscoring the NPP’s dedication to the region’s growth and prosperity.
The Savannah College of Education, now the first college of its kind in Gonjaland, offers Bachelor of Education programs in Junior High Education, Upper Primary Education, and Early Grade Education. Its new status will bring additional resources and support, boosting its ability to serve students across the region and to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s educational landscape.
Chairman Kalamonia added that this development is a testament to the NPP government’s focus on enhancing education nationwide, while strengthening the foundation for sustained regional progress. He affirmed that the college’s absorption would empower more youth in Gonjaland and beyond with quality training and educational opportunities, reflecting the government’s vision of inclusive growth.
This milestone sets a promising tone for educational advancement in the Savannah Region, as the college embarks on a new chapter supported by increased resources and aligned with national educational goals.
