DAMONGO BISHOP LAUNCHES TREE PLANTING AS CATHOLIC CHURCH CELEBRATES ARBOR WEEK

The Catholic Bishop of Damongo, Most Rev. Peter Paul Angkyier on Monday June 7,2021 Launched a tree planting at the St. Ann’s cathedral parish to mark Arbor week celebrations.

Arbor week is usually celebrated every year within the Catholic faithful in the diaspora to give special attention to the environment by planting trees and also educating people on the need to protecting the environment from depletion.

The bishop at the launched of the week long celebrations urge all parishes in the Diocese as a matter of concern to encourage their parishness to part take in tree planting exercises to help reclaimed our lost green environment.

Most Rev. Angkyier stated that, the celebrations of Arbor week in the Catholic Church is inline with a document that was launched 5years ago by His Holiness Pope Francis called “Laudato si” a Latin meaning praise be to you my Lord.

It is a week earmarked to give special attention to the environment by planting and protecting the trees around us so that our environment will continue to look green.

Coincidentally, this year’s Arbor week is inline with a national call by the president of the republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo on all citizens to make Ghana green by planting 5 million trees on our environment which commence on Friday June 11, 2021

During the tree planting launched at the at St. Ann’s cathedral parish, Most Rev. Angkyier bemoaned how fast we have degraded our environment and called on the President to be firm in the fight against the depletion of the environment.
He reaffirm the Church’s pledge to plant 1million trees across the county.

Though the bishop planted trees earlier on, today friday 11/06/2021 he joined hundreds of students from the Cathedral school complex to plant thousands of tree seedlings around the school the cathedral and his residency to marked the day.

The bishop stated that, for the green Ghana project to be actualize we should not plant and go to relax but be ready to put measures in place to see to the growth of these seedlings we are planting today. He reiterated the catholic church readiness to support the project and encourage the students to each take responsibilities to see to the growth of the seedlings they are planting today.
